As the first author of an article published in a scholarly journal, I worked as part of a collaborative team to conduct original research, compile data, and draft the manuscript. The article advocates for revising traditional demographic measures in STEM and biomedical research programs to better support the recruitment, retention, and inclusion of underrepresented students, with a focus on integrating intersectionality into research practices. It emphasizes the need for inclusive demographic data collection that extends beyond gender, race/ethnicity, and disability to include categories like sexual orientation and disadvantaged background. The manuscript provides operationalized phrasing for demographic questions to ensure more representative data, helping to identify and address inequities.
This project involved an extensive literature review, qualitative data analysis, and synthesizing findings into a cohesive, academically rigorous article. Throughout the process, I collaborated closely with other researchers, ensuring the publication met academic and ethical standards. I adhered to the journal’s guidelines and navigated the peer review process, addressing reviewer feedback and revising the manuscript accordingly. Writing this article deepened my understanding of scholarly publishing and further developed my research and academic writing skills.

Through my work as a researcher at the OHSU-PSU School of Public Health, I regularly collaborate with a team of researchers on various research projects. It has given me the opportunity to create many research posters as well as present our research at academic conferences. These experiences and my proficiency with the genre of scientific posters inspired me to create a Research Poster article for the Portland State University Technical Communication Topics Wiki. I was able to create much of the content of the article from my direct experience with the genre, and also expanded my knowledge by doing further reading of other researchers' experiences and recommendations.

As the primary creator of content for my health and wellness blog (active until 2021), I wrote, photographed, and edited all of my own content, focusing on healthy lifestyle topics like nutrition, physical activity, mental health, and overall wellness. This blog was designed to inspire and educate individuals seeking a holistic approach to healthy living, blending evidence-based tips with personal insights. Alongside written content, I created original photography that visually complemented each post, from recipe guides to wellness practices, ensuring a cohesive and engaging reader experience.
Although the blog is no longer active, it serves as a comprehensive portfolio of my abilities in content creation, photography, and digital communication. I carefully curated each post with a balance of engaging written material and visual elements that resonated with my audience, demonstrating my ability to communicate complex topics in an accessible and relatable manner.
